                University Fees

                Tuition Fees

The amount of tuition you pay will depend on factors such as your program and year of study, your course load and your campus。
While the exact tuition fees for each academic year are typically finalized in the spring, you can take a look at the previous year’s amounts in your area of study to get an idea of how much you’ll pay in tuition。
Remember that in addition to tuition, your total fees will include incidental and ancillary fees。

Incidental, Ancillary and System Access Fees

Incidental fees contribute to things like student societies, campus-based services, athletics and recreation facilities, and student health and dental plans。
Many of these fees are compulsory, but you will have the option of opting out of a small proportion of them。

Ancillary fees cover things like field-trip costs, or special equipment provided for coursework, as well as administrative costs such as transcript fees or library fines。

                Other Costs of University

Here are some other costs you’ll need to think about when planning to attend university。

                Books, Computers and Supplies

You’ll need to factor into your budget the cost of books, electronic equipment and other educational supplies。
The amount you’ll pay for these depends on several factors, and will probably vary year-to-year – for example, you’ll spend more if you need to purchase a computer in a given year。
When it comes to course textbooks, you might want to consider alternatives like e-books, textbook rentals or used books to help reduce costs。

You might want to budget at least $1,000 per year on books, and additional amounts for a computer or other equipment, depending on your preferences and program needs。

                Residence, Food and Transportation

Depending on whether you’re living on campus, renting housing off campus, or commuting from your family home, your costs for residence, food and transportation will vary。

For example, if you’re living on campus, your residence and meal-plan or other food costs will make up a large proportion of your University expenses。
These might range from approximately $8,000 to $15,000 per academic year, depending on where you decide to live, as well as whether you purchase a meal plan or prepare your own food。

If you’re planning to live in rental housing off campus, your rent and food costs could total anywhere from $15,000 and up。

For those commuting to the University, transportation costs will be a factor。 Look into the cost of public transit, or budget for gas, car insurance and parking if you’ll be driving。

                Other Living Expenses

You should factor in any other expenses you’ll need for living, commuting and studying。
These might include paying for things like your telephone and Internet, clothes and personal care items, recreation and entertainment。

It’s a good idea to make a budget and track your spending, in order to stay in control of your finances。 The U of T Financial Planning Calculator can help you with this。
Many colleges and divisions have University preparation programs and transitional programming to help you learn these skills。

How and When to Pay Fees

To complete registration, you’ll need to pay your fees ahead of your Faculty’s registration deadline。
You may have the option of deferring your fee payment if you’ll be receiving government financial aid or other financial assistance。
Or, you can arrange to make partial payments, although this will involve a service charge。 If you’re planning to live in residence and/or use a meal plan, you’ll need to pay for these over two installments, or arrange for partial payments with a service charge。
Residence and meal-plan payments cannot be deferred。

                When: Registration Deadlines

Your registration deadline is dependent upon your Faculty and/or program。
You will need to pay your tuition, incidental and ancillary fees by that date, or arrange for a payment deferral if you’ll be receiving OSAP or other government financial aid。
Be sure to plan enough time for your bank to transfer the funds to the University, as this can sometimes take between three to five business days, and even longer for international payments。

                How: Invoices, Payments and Deferrals

Your invoices for fees, residence and meal plans are available online through ACORN, the student online information service。
Once you’ve verified your registration deadline and accessed your invoice, you can make a full payment, arrange for partial payments, or request a fee deferral。

Payments must be made through your financial institution, via a bank machine, teller, online or by telephone。 No payments are accepted on campus。
Also note that credit-card payments are not accepted。

If you’ll be making a payment from outside Canada, you can use Western Union’s GlobalPay or send a bank draft or money order in Canadian funds to the University of Toronto。
Be sure to allow enough time for the transfer of funds to be processed。

If you’ve qualified for OSAP or other financial aid, you can apply to defer your fee payment (in advance) online, to allow time for your financing to be transferred over。

Residence and meal-plan fees are paid over two installments during the academic year。 While these may not be deferred, it’s possible to arrange for partial payments, along with service charges。
